
Following the dismissal of its controversial former CEO Dov Charney amid sexual harassment and racism allegations, American Apparel has introduced a strict new code of ethics for all staff.
The new code is four times the length of its predecessor and requires ‘all personal and/or romantic relationships between Company personnel where one person may have perceived or actual influence over the other’s terms of employment’ to be cleared in advance by HR.
A romantic relationship is defined as ‘both casual dating and committed relationships.’
The reinforced code is seen as an attempt to protect the company following the ignominious departure of founder Charney, sacked as CEO last month for alleged misconduct.
