A fashion favourite of the 90s and 00s has made a return to the UK high street.
Gap is back and has reopened inside Next on Oxford Street – with a unique ‘store within a store’ concept.
The move comes after Next signed a joint venture to manage Gap’s UK and Ireland stores last year, after the nostalgic fashion brand was forced to close 81 outlets.
But now the first shop embodying this new model is open – so 4,400 square feet of Next’s London flagship is now devoted to Gap.
And it’s perhaps unsurprising considering the triumphant Gap revival over recent months.
The Gap hoodie is one of many 90s and Y2K trends making a return to mainstream fashion – having recently been spotted on influencers such as Ocean Lewis and Emma Chamberlain.
So, almost two decades after its heyday, the brand is growing in popularity again. In fact, people love the brand so much some original Gap hoodies have even been spotted online, selling for quadruple their retail value.
The new Gap store in Next includes womenswear and menswear, but the vast majority of space is devoted to kidswear.
Shoppers can also customise Gap products in-store using embroidery, badging and monogramming stations within the space.
Adrienne Gernand, managing director of international and global licensing and wholesale at Gap, commented: ‘Gap customers are going to have more customer services and benefits through Next than they had through our previously owned channels.
‘Services like click-and-collect, next day shipping, and free returns to any store within Next’s network of over 500 locations is really going elevate the customer’s shopping experience, giving them more efficient and cost-effective ways to engage with the brand.’
