When the hottest couple on the planet start a trend, we’re duty-bound to let you know so you can get in on it, too.

Zendaya and Tom Holland have added to the cute ways they show their love for each other (like Tom stitching a Z onto all his jeans and wearing matching shirts) with an engraved ring – and we expect them to be an increasingly popular jewellery choice over the coming months.

Dune star Zendaya showed off her new nail art in a recent snap, flashing a signet ring bearing the initials TH on her middle finger.

As if the pair weren’t cute enough, they’re now expressing their commitment to each other through the medium of accessories; a big statement considering Zendaya’s an ambassador for high-end jewellery brand Bvlgari.

Jenny Lauren, founder of Jenny Lauren Jewelry, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘I think people opt for this type of jewellery because it’s a powerful way of honouring their commitment and love to their partner. It’s also a great way to “show off” who you’ve chosen to be your life partner.’

It’s undoubtedly a sweet gesture, but you may feel like it’s a bit too cutesy. There’s also the question, will people see it as a territory marking thing, as if you’ve branded your keeper’s details on you to mark ownership?

The key is ensuring you keep the nod to your lover subtle.

Product development manager at Astrid & Miyu, Jade, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Lots of our pendant necklaces can be engraved on the back so only you know it’s there.’

Pairing your couple jewellery with more generic pieces also helps avoid seeming like a teenager writing their crush’s name all over their notebook.

An engraved disc pendant layered with multiple necklaces and hoops, for example, is a grown-up way to work the look.

If you prefer slightly chunkier pieces, an ID bracelet lets you show off your commitment without compromising on style. This option comes with free engraving and is made from hardwearing rhodium plated recycled Sterling silver.

Alternatively, Jade suggests building up a collection of initial jewellery, with each piece dedicated to a different person who means something to you.

‘We love the idea of these being the base of your everyday stack, an essential in your jewellery wardrobe,’ she adds.

‘I would hand stamp my partner’s initials on a medallion – whether it be circle, square, or rectangular – and hang it off one of my chain necklaces with other words that symbolise our relationship,’ comments Jenny.

‘That’s if I wanted a more rugged piece… which is predominantly the kind of jewellery I design.’

For a simpler look, she also recommends simple gemstone necklaces, bracelet, or anklet, which ‘give a younger, fresher feeling (something I think couples like Zendaya and Tom Holland might like)!’

Commenting on the trend, Jade says: ‘We’re seeing this trend growing in the market and have really developed our offer of jewellery lines which are perfect for engraving; doubling our assortment over the last year.’

The brand has seen a rise in ’90s-inspired engraving on heavier pieces like ID tags and signet rings, alongside welded bracelets featuring initial charms; nothing says devotion like a ‘forever’ piece, after all.

At least it’s less permanent than a couple tattoo if the relationship takes a turn for the worse…
